Oh Me Oh My What A Lovely Day

IMG_2003

Yesterday, I took a little break from my usual Sunday routine and escaped to the magical, chaotic, creative world of Oh Me Oh My DIY! A few months ago my friend and fellow blogger Grace of StyleMe G told me about the event. I was seriously impressed and wanted to sign up straight away! So basically its a DIY/craft event run in a secret location in Cork work run by some badass girls with seriously amazing ideas! This event was Autumn themed and the decor and colour schemes were beautiful and rustic! We had five demonstrations from some very talented people and the we had a go at making some creations ourselves! I left feeling ver inspired and motivated to try more little DIY projects at home!

We were all given the most adorable goodie bags full of little treats and vouchers and an Image magazine!

Firstly, Jack from The Rocket Man showed us how to pickle, make cheese from yogurt and how to preserve lemons! It was a lot to take in but he gave out notes and recipes so we could go over them later!

Then, the beautiful Alice Halliday taught us how to up cycle our old clothes! We were told to bring a garment we didn’t wear anymore but wanted to fall back in love with! She provided us with, buttons, trimmings and lots of other bits and bobs to help us transform out old clothes. Alice was one of the sweetest and most talented ladies I have ever met! She even brought along a dress she made for Florence of Florence and the Machine! Now that was seriously impressive!

We then stopped for an out of this world amazing lunch provided for us by the Rocket Man. There was lots of yummy salad and cheese and sourdough bread and humus! We were all stuffed by the time the next class started!

After Lunch we had Kyle Lane talk to us about upcycling old furniture and she gave us a fun project to do! We created wall hangings out of wood with our initials on them and a little hook for keys or jewellery! I’ll take a picture of mine once I’ve found somewhere to hang it! Kyle is a fellow Tipperary woman and is based in Clonmel! She also gave us some really good tips for finding old furniture and little project ideas!IMG_2001

Next, was a lesson on millinery by Aoife of Potty but Posh! We learnt how to make beautiful little hats made of netting and felt common in the 1950’s! It was a little tricky but we all got the hang of it in the end! You can see the hats we made in the picture below and I cant wait to try it again at home in cream an gold which will propably go with a lot more of my outfits!

Then, a little break for dessert and more tea before the last class began! The was beautiful seasonal tarts and cake and some monkey nuts!

The last class was taught by Jill from Wild Floral Couture. This was my favourite part! Jill was so enthusiastic and gave us so many helpful tips about collecting our own wild flowers and plants. We made beautiful flower arrangements and although it wasnt as easy as she made it look they all turned out fabulous!

There were cocktails at the end and a big family photo! It was just so lovely to spend a day with like minded souls, all of us a little creative and interested in learning more skills! Thank you to all the demonstrators and the girls who organised it! Such an inspiring, fantastic day! I really think anyone who enjoys making beautiful things or really wants to start getting into DIY would love the event! Go check out their facebook page and have a look at their pictures! Culture Night At Grafton Academy

IMG_1717

On Friday night Grafton Academy took part in Dublin’s culture night! It was an amazing night where we got a chance to show off the college and all our hard work! There was pattern drafting demonstrations, sewing demonstrations, samples of our art portfolios, millenary displays and of course models wearing all the students designs.

This is one of the dresses I made in my first year at Grafton Academy! It was lovely to see it on a model and I was so proud of myself!

What made the night so special was that we were able to celebrate and acknowledge every aspect of Grafton Academy. We displayed work of Grafton Graduates through the decades. It was lovely to see such famous and well-respected names among the alumni such as Paul Costelloe, Umit Kutluk, Patrick Casey, Ib Jorgensen and Nelli Mulcahy.

Giraffes, Pearls and Full Skirts

IMG_1325

Hello my lovelies! Just a little post today! I wanted to show you all an outfit I wore while helping out backstage at a fashion show for graduates of the LA College’s make up course! It was a really fun day and I had a few minutes to spare to take some outfit shots!

IMG_1328 IMG_1332

I’m wearing a shirt by the brand How Many T-Shirt which I bought in the coolest shop ever called Tamp and Stitch in Temple Bar. I wanted to buy everything they had in stock! It was one of those shops that has such a cool atmosphere that you felt cooler for just having been in there! The shirt is my favorite recent purchase, just look at the adorable giraffes! My scarf is from Electronic Sheep which I bought in Bow in Powerscourt Townhouse The skirt used to belong to my mother. I love full skirts so much at the moment. I wore them all Summer and I can’t see myself stopping for Autumn, prepare to see lots more of them here! The shoes are by Papucei which I purchased in Le Chateau Choo in Thurles!

I hope you all enjoyed another little peek into my wardrobe! I have lots more exciting things planned for you all soon! Enjoy the weekend!

Afternoon Tea at the Horse and Jockey

IMG_1466

Hello everyone! Last  week I went to the Horse and Jockey for afternoon tea! The Horse and Jockey is a Hotel in Tipperary about two minuets from where I grew up! I have so many fond memories of going there as child for Sunday lunch and was so excited when I heard they were serving afternoon tea (my favourite meal in case you havent guessed!).

IMG_1450 IMG_1456

I think to have a truly wonderful afternoon tea it takes a combination of food, presentation, decor and general ambiance. It’s about creating an experience and The Horse and Jockey did just that! Jacquline Lanigan Ryan is their genius pastry chef who created the heavenly cakes, pastries and tarts for our tea. She also made my 21st birthday cake last year! Everything was fresh, beautifully presented and so delicious! We started with a  plate of sandwiches and the egg and cress were out of this world! Then on to fruit scones with cream, jam, butter and lemon curd (I’m getting hungry just thinking about it). And then as if I wasnt full enough there was the tier of pastries, cakes and tarts. My personal favourites were the chocolate and caramel tart, the plum and almond tart and the beautiful scones. Another big plus for me was the side of lemon curd that came with the jam and cream. I adore lemon curd and thought it was a nice touch! I found I was too full to finish everything so they very kindly put the rest in a box for a little midnight feast! I have had my fair share of afternoon tea before and I can honestly say the Horse and Jockey have knocked it out of the park. And if anyone needs further convincing its amazingly good value at 12 euro per person. It seriously doesn’t get better than that!

I also thought it was worth mentioning that if afternoon tea isn’t your thing (you crazy people) or you are just too busy, they have a bakery when you can buy lots of fresh breads and cakes to take away with you! If you would like more details you can find them here!

Just before I go here is what I wore to tea!
